Word of Mouth

You don’t need me to tell you that businesses are facing challenging times in the current climate.
This means that the exercise of sound business principles is more important than ever.
Cost control, liquidity preservation and effective marketing are the keys to survival and success. A thorough review and analysis of all the essential aspects of your business could pay dividends at this time. New products, new markets, diversification may be the order of the day as your existing activities are threatened and a new approach is the only way ahead.
Paradoxically, it can also be a good time to start a new venture as many gaps appear in the market place and new opportunities arise.
If you face an uncertain future in employment, it could be a good time to consider self-employment, working for yourself, putting your expertise and market knowledge into practice without the overheads and bureaucracy that can sometimes strangle an existing company.
Anglesey Accounting, supported by its team of qualified and experienced consultants, can help new and established businesses survive and succeed.

Local Business Event

I was at the Business on Anglesey and Gwynedd Business Network lunch meeting yesterday in the Trearddur Bay hotel. I met some very interesting people, and the food was good too! The speaker was Colin Munro from Highland Airways. He told us that when they first got the go-ahead for the flights from Anglesey to Cardiff, their passenger target was 7500 in the first 12 months. They have exceeded that target to 25000 passengers within 18 months!
Never underestimate the contacts that you make through networking opportunities like these. It can open new doors for your business. There is plenty of room for all of us to work together to make our businesses successful. In my experience I have found that people like to work with people, not necessarily with ‘the business’.
As long as you keep focussed on delighting your customer and give excellent service to everyone, you will be one big step closer to making a success of your business.

Rental Demand Increases…It’s Just Paying The Actual Rent That’s The Problem
Monday, November 17th, 2008 | News Item | 2 Comments
As spin goes, this article in Property Wire does a good job of suggesting that, as the property prices fall, the increased demand for rental property is ‘good news’ for landlords.
The problem is: while the demand is there; as the energy prices increase and the credit crunch bites, people are actually less and less able to pay their rent.
In fairness, they do actually acknowledge the reality of the situation right at the tail end of the piece, when AXA Loans MD, Mike Keating says “…if you consider that many of those renting may be struggling to make ends meet it’s certainly not all good news for buy-to-let owners…”
The combination of increased demand to rent with decreased ability to pay is going to cause serious problems for the new class of reluctant landlords who are only renting because they are unable to sell.
These are people that need to get really good business and accountancy advice as early as they can in their ‘careers’ as landlords.

Starting in Business?
Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 | News Item | No Comments
Are you a new or recent Business Start-up?
In our role helping and assisting new businesses, we want our customers to be aware of current regulation. Here are some key points.
First things first:
- Register with HM Revenue & Customs as soon as you start working for yourself. You may have to pay a penalty if you haven’t registered within the first 3 months. A useful guide is the award winning Working for Yourself. Another useful booklet is Thinking of Working for Yourself?
- Do you want to, or have to, register for VAT? Please have a look at this link from the Revenue & Customs website.
- You may need to appoint an accountant to help with your business accounts and maybe your payroll. Your accountant should also be able to help you with tax planning advice. Before you appoint an accountant think about what you want from them. Do you only need help with the accounts or do you also want them to help with your business planning, advertising and marketing?
- At Anglesey Accounting, we offer all these services and more, so please think about what help you do need so you can make an informed choice.

What a Week!
Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 | Blog Chat | 3 Comments
Well, we’ve had another busy week here at Anglesey Accounting. Sharon has been out and about meeting new customers. We’ve also been building good relationships with other local businesses. In this current economic downturn isn’t it even more important that we work together to source good quality businesses locally rather than looking elsewhere?
What do you think?
We’ve also just finished our latest advert which will be published in the Anglesey Informer. This is a community magazine which is distributed free to thousands of homes on Anglesey.
